PATAGONIA LUKE NELSON EXCITED TO BE BACK IN HONG KONG

FOR MSIG HK50 THIS SUNDAY

HONG KONG, 5Nov. 2015 –Luke Nelson, a trail running ambassador for Patagonia is coming back to Hong Kong on Nov 8th for the MSIG HK50 to give all participants a real challenge on one of the most gorgeous trails in Hong Kong.

The MSIG HK50, a Skyrunner® Series event with points up for grabs in the 50 kilometers category is the first race of the annual MSIG trail running series and also a qualifying event for 2016 Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc®. There are two distances on offer this year the 24 kilometers and 50 kilometers. The race will start at The Peak and finish at Wong Nai Chung Gap in Hong Kong Island. A thousand runners from around the world have already filled up the race.

In the 24-kilometer race, the route will include the Hong Kong Trail all the way to Wong Nai Chung Gap and a loop of Mt Bennet. It is a great introductory course for the longer MSIG HK50 series, as it is not high in elevation and rolling flat areas make up much of the distance.

On the other hand, the 50-kilometer course has 5,792meters of change in elevation (2802m elevation gain & 2990m loss) and will cover a climb up to the beautiful and challenging Mt. Parker.

Luke Nelson the Patagonia Trail Running Ambassador from the United States, is in Hong Kong for the second time. “I am so excited to be coming back to race in Hong Kong. The first time I visited it was great to compete in the MSIG Sai Kung 50k in February and it was an amazing event, world class course and super competitive. I can’t wait to be once again toeing the line in Hong Kong, this time to race on Hong Kong Island,” said Nelson.

Yan Long Fei, one of the top runners in China from the Salomon team and the 50 kilometers champion from the 2014 MSIG HK50, is coming back to defend his title.  “This is my second time to take part in MSIG series. Comparing to last year, I feel stronger and also more relaxed about this year’s race. I have joined quite a few races in Europe which made me a more experienced runner. I won’t set any goal to myself as racing is always about learning and improving for me. Because racing safely and enjoying the experience is always my priority in every race, I never focus on ranking,” said Yan.

Linda Lee is an interior designer and a trail running enthusiast who has been constantly challenging herself by competing in Action Asia Events’ races including many oversea ultra-marathon races and the coming MSIG HK50. “I started trail running 5 years ago and found running in mountains more interesting than hiking for me. Trail running needs full concentration so it helps me to forget about work and all the stress in life. I exercise quite often and I still started serious training for MSIG HK50 a month ago hoping to finish the race. I suggest first timers to keep their pace during the race and feed themselves well,” said Lee.

The event could not happen without the generous support of MSIG Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited the presenting sponsor and the supporting partners ActionX Store, OtterBox, Bonaqua, Salomon, Redback Specialty Coffee, Berrytime, C3fit, Salonpas, Oregon Scientific, China Skyrunning Association, Herbalgy, Key Sun Zinke, Suunto, Kitsound, AroundDB, Skins, Oldham Li & Nie Lawyers, Delicious, Del Monte, UTMB Qualifying Race 2016 and the Action Asia Foundation.
